The SUI 072 sailing towards another victory at the World Open 2014 on Lake Garda.

The Esse 850 IC Cup

The first inofficial events of the Esse 850 IC Cup took place in 2006, when the conceptioner of the yacht, Josef Schuchter, organized the first couple of exclusive Esse 850 regattas. One year later, the Cup came down to its first total year ranking which was won by Oscar Paulich, the early dominator of the Esse 850 scene. It was also the year of the first European Open at Malcesine on Lake Garda. This event emerged as the most popular regatta of the series and has therefore been held annually ever since.

The Esse 850 Class is member of Swiss Sailing meaning that the Swiss Championship that is organized every year is supported by Swiss Sailing for the organization and the recognition. The cup has seen the participation of some well-known professional sailors which is inspiring for all participants. The boat and the class rules allow even the less experienced crews to finish close to the more experienced crews making the regattas well disputed and attractive.

The Esse IC Cup includes many events, so that there are most probably some on the lake where you are based. We don’t expect all boats to participate at all events, this why we have graded the events from grade 1, the most important ones which count the most and where we expect the highest participation to the grade 3 events which count less and made more for the local crews. At the end of the season we rank the skippers and boats according to the number of points they obtained throughout the season and the winner receives the IC Cup which is put back in play every season.
